Game Design E-Books

Andrew Davison, "Pro Java 6 3D Game Development: Java 3D, JOGL, JInput and JOAL APIs"Apress ISBN 1590598172 April 30, 2007 528 Pages PDF 14.3MBreate strange lands filled with mysterious objects (cows frozen in blocks of ice, chirping penguins, golden globes with wavering eyes) and throw away your keyboard and mouse, to go exploring armed only with a gamepad, power glove, or just your bare hands…Java gaming expert Andrew Davison will show you how to develop and program 3D games in Java™ technology on a PC, with an emphasis on the construction of 3D landscapes. It's assumed you have a reasonable knowledge of Java - the sort of thing picked up in a first Java course at school.Topics are split into three sections: Java 3D™ API, non-standard input devices for game playing, and JOGL. Java 3D is a high-level 3D graphics API, and JOGL is a lower-level Java wrapper around the popular OpenGL graphics API.You'll look at three non-standard input devices: the webcam, the game pad, and the P5 data glove.Along the way, you'll utilize several other games-related libraries including: JInput, JOAL, JMF, and Odejava.Learn all the latest Java SE 6 features relevant to gaming, including: splash screens, JavaScript™ scripting as well as the desktop and system tray interfaces.Unique coverage of Java game development using both the Java 3D API and Java for OpenGL, as well as invaluable experience from a recognized Java gaming guru, will provide you with a distinct advantage after reading this book.

Francesca Rossi (Editor), Peter van Beek (Editor), Toby Walsh (Editor), "Handbook of Constraint Programming"pages: 978 Publisher: Elsevier Science (October 13, 2006) English ISBN-10: 0444527265 PDF 11.6 MBConstraint programming is a powerful paradigm for solving combinatorial search problems that draws on a wide range of techniques from artificial intelligence, computer science, databases, programming languages, and operations research. Constraint programming is currently applied with success to many domains, such as scheduling, planning, vehicle routing, configuration, networks, and bioinformaticsBook DescriptionThe aim of this handbook is to capture the full breadth and depth of the constraint programming field and to be encyclopedic in its scope and coverage. While there are several excellent books on constraint programming, such books necessarily focus on the main notions and techniques and cannot cover also extensions, applications, and languages. The handbook gives a reasonably complete coverage of all these lines of work, based on constraint programming, so that a reader can have a rather precise idea of the whole field and its potential. Of course each line of work is dealt with in a survey-like style, where some details may be neglected in favor of coverage. However, the extensive bibliography of each chapter will help the interested readers to find suitable sources for the missing details. Each chapter of the handbook is intended to be a self-contained survey of a topic, and is written by one or more authors who are leading researchers in the area.

lite-C Lightweight virtual reality language

With lite-C you can quickly and easily program graphics or virtual reality applications - such as 2D or 3D computer games - even without previous programming knowledge! Sounds, images, movies, user interfaces, 2D and 3D models, collision detection, rigid body physics, multitasking, and DirectX 9 functions are already a native part of the language. So you can immediately achieve results with a few lines in lite-C that would require hundreds of source code lines with normal C/C++ compilers.
Lite-C is ideal when you don't want to concentrate on programming, but on the content. It's also ideal for learning programming. Its syntax is similar to the C/C++ programming language, but much easier - and more fun - to learn. Anything that's scary to a beginner, like memory and pointer handling, is automatically managed in lite-C. No crashes, memory leaks, and pointer arithmetics anymore!
The lite-C package contains a complete development environment with editor, compiler, and debugger, and many samples of DirectX, OpenGL, and other programs. And the best of all: lite-C is free! A free 3D model editor for creating 3D content is also available.

Visual C# 2005 Express
Visual C# 2005 Express and the other Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition products are, in my opinion, one of the best and most intelligent ideas to come out from Developer Division here at Microsoft. I’m applauding and cheering for the people who had this brilliant idea because I believe there is a real need and demand for a world-class and powerful product for the hobbyist programmers, students, and professional developers. And Visual C# 2005 Express Edition answers all of that and more.Visual C# 2005 Express Edition is a fully functional subset of Visual Studio 2005, suitable for creating and maintaining Windows applications and libraries. It’s not a timed-bomb edition, a demo, or a feature limited version; no, it’s a key Microsoft initiative to reach more people and give them the ability to have fun while creating cool software.
